Teej has long been a cherished festival in Nepal, celebrating women’s devotion, love, and unity. Traditionally, it’s a time for prayers, music, and festive gatherings. But in today’s world, where environmental concerns are more pressing than ever, SathSathai Foundation has reimagined Teej with a purpose—introducing Green Teej.
A Celebration with a Cause
Green Teej isn’t just about festivities; it’s about women leading the way in climate action. With growing awareness of environmental challenges, this initiative encourages reducing plastic waste, minimizing carbon footprints, and making celebrations more sustainable—all while keeping the spirit of Teej alive.
Women at the Forefront of Change
Fifty passionate environmental activists came together to pledge for a greener future, to follow the principle of 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and spread awareness. SathSathai, in partnership with the Ministry of Forests and Environment, took the lead in making this movement a reality, with key contributions from NTNC, Nepal Telecom, and Nepal Airlines.
Beyond the Festival: A Movement for Sustainability
Green Teej has sparked a larger environmental movement, inspiring initiatives like the Plastic-Free Zone campaign at Singha Durbar. Launched by Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, this campaign takes a bold step toward eliminating plastic waste in government spaces, proving that real change starts with action.
A Future Rooted in Tradition and Sustainability
Green Teej is more than just an event—it’s a movement towards harmonizing cultural traditions with environmental responsibility. With women leading the charge, this initiative is a testament to the power of community, awareness, and action in creating a cleaner, greener future. 🌍💚
