This initiative, focused on making festivals like Teej more environmentally friendly, brings together 50 activists from various sectors to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices.

Marking world Environment Day 2024,Sath Sathai hosted a climate rally for environmental justice in collaboration with 64 organisations with a slogan “Marching Together For Environmental Justice” Starting from Bhadrakali and concluding at Basantapur.

Sath Sathai, organized a one-day conference titled “The climate change challenges: Any roadmap for gender-responsive climate action?” in collaboration with The Ministry of Forest and Environment and UN Women with the help of KTK Belt. This brought together ministers, politicians, experts, and leaders of civil society.
Patricia Fernandez – Pacheco (UN Women Country Representative to Nepal), Sama Shrestha (UN Women Representative), Manjit Dhakal (Climate Change expert), Dr. Birendra Prasaad Mahato (Minister of Forest and Environment), Dr. Buddhi Sagar Poudel (Joint-Secretary and Chief), Dibya Gurung (Manager of the Naya Srijanshil Cooperative), and Raju Pandit Chhetri (Global Fund Expert) gave their expert views on the topic. Panelists Deepika Das (General in Agriculture Researcher), Sonam Lama (Journalist), Shreya K.C (Social Climate Justice Activist), Apsara Lamichhane (Vice Chair Helambu District), Umesh Pradhan Magar (Youth Climate Activist) also answered different queries in the panel discussion segment.
Sathsathai participated in 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC. The 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, held from 6 November until 20 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Nepal Government Delegate and Sathsathai’s founder Ms. Prajeeta Karki participated and screened her documentary video “Women’s Voice for Climate Justice” on the side events of ICIMOD Cryosphere Pavilion (8th Nov), Rural Reconstruction Nepal (9th Nov 5:30pm Egypt time).
In the event organized by International Cryosphere Climate Initiative: Adaptation and Mountains (4pm Egypt time), Nepal Government delegate Ms. Deepa Oli attended the event personally, Dr. Siddhartha Bajra Bajracharya, Mr. Balkrishna Basnet and Ms. Deena Paneru attended virtually via Zoom.
Women’s Voice from the Himalaya: Woumen United for Climate Justice and Nature-based Tourism Development.
On Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 3:00 PM at Basera Boutique Hotel, Babarmahal Kathmandu, Sathsathai Foundation conducted a sharing program. Minister Jeevanram Shrestha, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation attended as a chief guest. The event was supported by the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) and Forest and Environment (MoFE).
The program was attended by Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan, Singer Ani Choying Drolma, Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal, Dr. Arjun Karki, Ms. Ragini Upadhaya, Ms. Sunita Dulal, Mr. Nima Gyalzen Sherpa and other prominent people.
Sathsathai made an effort to raise women’s voices from Kalapatthar (5644m) of the Everest region, Nepal on 08 March 2022 to mark the 112th International Women’s Day. The 40 women’s team was joined by Manisha Koirala, Dr. Radha Wagle, Saru Shrestha Joshi, Dr. Siddhartha Bajra Bajracharya, Babita Basnet, Bandana Rana, Sharad Adhikari, Balkrishna Basnet together with a great team of media personnel. The slogan for this unique and symbolic International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022 celebration was “Women United for Climate Justice”.
Therefore, IWD 2022 celebration with the slogan “Women United for Climate Justice” in Kalapatthar in the Everest region aims to carry a deep and powerful meaning. That there is a desperate need to build outside support for women of the Himalaya mountain ranges, who are living in the most remote and isolated regions of the world, and contributing least to greenhouse gas emissions, but are the hardest hit by the consequences of climate change.
Sathsathai founder Prajeeta Karki expressed deep concern about the irreversible melting of the Himalayan glaciers. She insisted on the urgency for integrating local and global actions to reduce climate impacts. Ms Karki added that climate change has become an existential issue in the Himalaya, and that without concerted action women and girls would continue to be frontline victims.

- Advocates the ‘Climate Justice’ issues to ensure that women and disadvantage groups are treated fairly and equitably to improve their adaptation capacity to the Climate Change impacts;
- Makes every effort to define the role of women in mitigating and adaptation of Climate Change;
- Appeals to strengthen the climate resiliency of health systems to protect and promote human health and wellbeing particularly focusing on women and children;
- Seeks support from the international community to enable mountain people particularly women to meet the unfolding challenges of Climate Change;
- Draws global attention to the challenges of Climate Change in the Himalayas and downstream;
- Raise our concern on melting of Himalayas as a result of global warming;
- Supports to safeguard Himalayan ecosystems which provide immense services to millions of people living in the mountains and plains;
- Expresses its commitment to join hand with the global climate justice movement to achieve a scientifically sound and socially just response to Climate Change;
- Ensures its commitment to promote the Himalayas as a key nature-based tourism destination; and
- Commits to generate awareness and capacitate vulnerable communities particularly women to cope with the changing climate.
Sathsathai organized an exclusive trekking trip to the Annapurna Base Camp led by female guides. The trip was a unique blend of women-led outdoor adventure, advocacy for nature, and nature-based tourism promotion. One of the major takeaways from the trekking tour was a demonstration that women from different ages and walks can together as a team can take on adventure and develop confidence in all aspects of their lives.
Recognizing and further highlighting the issue of differential impacts of climate change on women raised by the Sathsathai Foundation from Kalapatthar, the Everest region, on 8th March 2022 to mark the International Women’s Day, the Foundation organized a sharing meeting with the title “Women’s Voice from the Himalaya: Women United for Climate Justice and Nature-based Tourism Development”.
Together with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) it this sharing program was conducted on Wednesday, 6th July 2022, at Basera Boutique Hotel, Babarmahal Kathmandu from 3 PM to 5 PM. Honorable Minister Mr. Jiwanram Shrestha has consented to be the Chief Guest of the meeting. A special documentary video on the 40 Women’s Journey to the Everest Base Camp has been presented during the event.
In the event “The International Women’s Day” has been officially announced as the annual event to be celebrated in the Everest region of Nepal by Prajeeta Karki, chairperson of the Sathsathai Foundation. Sathsathai will observe International Women’s Day in the Everest region each year.
One of the declaration points made in Kalapatthar is that it “Appeals all the Provincial Governments to integrate climate planning in the Provincial Planning.” Keeping with this, Sathsathai conducted its first provincial event focusing on women impacted by climate change in Janakpurdham, Madesh Pradesh on 01 April, 2022. The event was attended by the Chief Minister of Madesh Province Lal Babu Raut, Hon. Judge Sapana Malla Pradhan, lawmaker Manju Yadav, deputy mayor, wards representatives, social activists, and media persons. Minister Raut put his concern about women being much more impacted by climate change, saying that the issue should be of primary concern to all the responsible authorities. He also emphasised about the need to strengthen women engagement in the economy, in politics, and overall society, and how that that was necessary to make a difference in reducing gender biases and violence against women. Chairperson Ms. Karki shared the organization’s aim to contribute to climate change and women empowerment. She further added that, together with the right will and the right kind of opportunity, women were capable of achieving great heights. The recent women marching to Kalapathar is a demonstration of this, she said.
